these three are the only construction pictures I have of the engines build
These pictures may be a visual help in building the Durham and NY, the oil cup on the cross head pin lubricates the small end bush, I found without this the small end bearing bush did not last long, the small end pin has an oil way through it’s centre with a cross drilling into the small end bush, without this oil cup the small end bush is starved of lubrication.
I made a wood pattern for the differential housing and had it cast in iron.
All the valve gear is case hardened
The valve body for the whistle is a casting and is actually for a model 2” scale Fowler traction engine the whistle was made from an article that appeared in Model Engineer magazine.
The fire door does open fully missing the water gauge.
The joins in the chain links had to be silver soldered so that they took the strain of the steering without stretching the Durham is a heavy engine for it’s size
